Has anyone ever had an encounter with a true feral dog pack in TN while hunting? I am more than curious about this as I know someone who just had an encounter this season with a large pack of appararently very hungry and vicious dogs in a remote area. Kind of makes you rethink about walking through the woods in the dark.

we had a pack in morgan county several years ago. the old woman that lived nearby had 5 or 6 dogs. when she died, the family just abandoned the dogs. we had to fight them for my son's first bow kill. war was declared.

We had them on our farm when I first started hunting about 16 years ago. I can still remember my dad and cousin shooting them on several occasions. One pack had at least 7 or 8 in it.

We had one around the house in 98 or 99, half a dozen of them.

Mr. 870 took care of the problem.

It's really a bigger problem in rural areas than most people want to admit. I have dealt with one near my house for the past 3 years now and it seems to have started by a female and about 8 puppies that someone dropped off in the cutover just down the road. People aren't realizing the damage they do when they take unwanted pets or the annoying neighbor's dog out on a backroad and throw them out. These feral dogs aren't sweet little puppy dogs. My dad and I have both had a couple nerve wracking encounters that left us shook up and some of the dogs dead. Through trapping and "see and shoot" practices, hopefully we can have them all gone before long.
