When he was hired, I wasn't thrilled, but I was optimistic.
All my life I have heard the two most important keys to being a successful coach are being able to organize and motivate. Now that he is out and the dirt is coming out on him, it doesn't seem that he was capable of either.
According to (various) talk show hosts, he was so unorganized that in-state high school coaches who had big time recruits playing for them had no idea who UT's recruiters were. Dooley's staff was terrible at returning calls, and were known for losing recruiting videos that were sent to them.
The way the team played without him against KY is an indication of how relieved they were to see him go.
I have no hard feelings towards him like most of us did toward Kiffin. Dooley did give his best effort while he was UT's coach. It's just that his best wasn't good enough to win many games even on the high school level.

Let's just hope they learned their lesson and open the checkbooks for a big time coach.
I don't feel sorry for Dooley. A $5M buyout eases alot of pain!

He was awful head coach i think he would do a decent job as a coordinator but I'm sure am glad he is gone. Never liked him as a coach but he does seem like a nice feller.

He may not have been a good motivator or organizer but was a good businessman with a smart lawyer. Coach 3 years @ $2 million plus per year and then walk with another $5 million. Where do I sign up for a gig like that. Chizik outdid him though. He's getting $7.5.
