Hey guys,
So I am looking at buying a browning a-bolt 270WSM and was wondering if anyone has had experience with this round. Does it group well? Do you guys think the WSM series is a fad is here to stay?
I am looking at this gun mainly to take deer and perhaps an elk one day. However, the elk thing won't be happening anytime soon. For deer, I want this rifle to stretch out to 400-600 yards.

Ammo can be tough to find. It's a nice round if you reload.

I have been deer hunting with a Browning A-bolt Composite Stalker w/BOSS in .270 WSM for the last 9 years or so. It is a dream to shoot and hunt with. It is fairly short, lightweight, very easy to maneuver and downright deadly accurate. It is the most accurate rifle out of the box I have ever purchased, and it does not matter which ammo you feed it, it shoots it all well (same hole at 100 yards is not uncommon with most ammo from a bench). I mail order my ammo from Midway and Georgia Arms and have always been thoroughly impressed with the gun's repeated accuracy. Put it this way, it would take A LOT of money for me to depart with it, like stupid money. That is how much I like it and how much confidence I have in it. The one thing I have not done with it is stretch it out to the 400-600 yards you mentioned. All in all, it is a great gun and a great caliber in my opinion. Hope this helps.

awesome yeah that does help a lot. My cousin is a sniper snob and was saying the casing would lock up in the chamber after the shot because of its stubby nature. Glad to hear it won't, I haven't heard anything negative about it yet other than the cost of ammunition. I am looking forward to having a good all around rifle!

I love mine. Kills stuff where it stands, shoots very flat, and is a dream to carry all day. Mine is a Kimber 8400 Classic. The only down side is the cost of ammo, but since I handload, that's a non factor. I would feel comfortable with anything in the lower 48 with that rifle, and of all the rifles I have, it would be the first one I would reach for if I ever get the chance to go elk hunting.

Great rifle/caliber combo. Light to carry around, kicks a little less than a .30-06, and will reach out there and knock 'em down.

I've got a Browning A-Bolt in 270 WSM. Picked it up cheap otherwise I wouldn't have bought it. Only advantage it has over my 270 Win is it will sling a 150 gr. bullet the same speed as the 270 Win with a 130 gr. bullet but at twice the cost per round. Good handling rifle though.

BirdDog; I have a Browning A-bolt Com Stalker 270 wsm & I can tell you also it is an accurate killing machine for sure. Plus a joy to shoot with that much horse power. I like the 130 gr pills best for it on deer. Dirt Rolls... IMO the (all around) best of the WSM'S. bang 4 your Buck.

For those of you shooting this caliber, BrassmanBrass.com has some once-fired stuff on sale. I've done business with them for quite awhile, good folks. Seems like a lot of 270 also.

i traded for a browning a bolt stainless hunter this year in 300wsm while looking for a 270wsm and i was a bit worried about the recoil, but having shot a 300win mag before i was shocked how light this a bolt kicks, i love mine so far and im sure the 270wsm would be awesome as well! i ended up with enough shells in the trade to last me a few seaseons but i tend to not shoot my deer rifles enough to really worry about ammo cost on them. so i tend to gravitate toward what i like vs the most econimical for deer guns as they probaly wont see 100 rnds a year and i dont hadload as of yet

With this ammo shortage I'm glade I'm pretty fit for components. Last year I bought quite a few of the 130gr discontiuned Speer Hot Cores for sheiets and grins shooting. I may have to do some phone book bullet tests with those for hunting backups?

BirdDog, The only concern with the 270 I would have would be the range 400>600 overall though a good choice (more to do with optics then caliber). I set up a Weatherby 300 WSM w Leupold 4.5-14x50 side focus and CDS for the same range. Not sure which scope you have but most can have the CDS add at the factory (under $100.00) It is WELL worth adding for the ranges your after. “0” it at 200 yards and just turn the dial to your game range. AND practice, practice, practice. Good luck!
