Mine kept going up little by little every year since 2004 and he would say it's cause of my credit score going down. I guess not using credit cost you on insurance. I got mad and started sending out request for quotes, I got a lot back near or even higher then what I was getting. Then I got one back from a agent that would keep with my same insurance company, saved me 400 for the same thing as I had with another agent. He was not happy I left 3 years ago, and they have kept my rates the same since I switched.

I'd like to know exactly why a credit score has any bearing on insurance rates. It makes no sense to me. If you don't pay your premium, you don't have coverage. A policy holder isn't borrowing anything. I think it's another technique to fleece the masses myself.

i couldn't agree more. it is none of their business what my credit score is and should have no bearing on insurance costs.

Claims, credit, rising cost of repairs. All are major factors.
stik, from an insurance standpoint, credit plays an important factor. Statistics show that people with higher scores maintain there cars, or homes for that matter. Lower scores tend to let things go due to lack of funds and are more likely to have a claim. Not saying this is the case all of the time, but proven statistics are hard to go against. I do foresee a change in how credit is rated within companies. Many companies have over 200 credit tiers.

Liberty Mutual was the cheapest when I got the coverage many years ago. The agent lived across the street from me. He moved on to greener pastures and I didn't stay on top of the yearly increases and policy changes. Built a new house in 2003 and used Liberty Mutual again. This is where the most of the savings occured. The homeowners insurance had my house value at about 200K over actual value. The premiums had risen to about $3500 a year.

The new car rate just got me looking around. State farm was $1800 a year cheaper on Homeowners and a thousand less on the cars, truck and boat.

I learned you better read those little riders and policy increases carefully. They get expensive.

Most agents/companies have built in increases.

Shop your insurance HARD every 2 years or so.

Back in the day I was with State Farm. Kept going up so I shopped around and called my agent with 2 quotes from other companies. He matched them and saved me about $700/yr.

Got to thinking.... "Hey! he could have been charging me at LEAST $700/yr LESS the whole time."

Got a slightly better quote the next year and dumped him when the next regular rate increase came around.

I just went to a local brokerage firm, and they saved me $900/year across the board, PLUS included a $1M umbrella policy....State Farm's umbrella was $300K.

the ONLY thing that should affect my insurance rates is my driving record. my credit rating is none of their business. i am not borrowing money from them.
