Man I couldn't believe all of the firings that happened today.
I can't believe all this guaranteed money these coaches get. Chizik gets 7.5 million. Dooley gets 5 million.

Gonna be a lot of salty sweet tea with all the tears that are gonna fall in Ktown when this is over. What exactly does Gruden have to gain by going to the college game, except a ton of days away from home, more rules than the IRS and answering to boosters? He has none of that in the NFL. He may not be at home early, but he's home every night except road games. He can get more money in the NFL. Face it, he isn't coming. He never was coming.
uh, he's not coaching in the NFL.

I don't see Gruden giving up his MNF with ESPN. Why would he go coach a program--voluntarily--that is going through a rough time? They would really have to pay him a LOT of money, more than ESPN. Jon Gruden is this era's John Madden, he is the face and voice of Monday Night Football.

X2, getting paid to run your mouth. Pretty sweet deal to give up.

Stik, I know he isn't coaching in the NFL. My point is that if he chose to coach, it wouldn't be in college. He's had ample opportunities in both college and NFL, but hasn't taken one yet. Look at the blue chip college jobs that have been available in the past five years. Then take a look at the jobs in the NFL that have been available in the same time frame. There is no question the better options have been college teams if that's what you want. I just haven't seen any interest from Gruden concerning coaching college football. I certainly don't see anything Tennessee has to offer that is going to change that.

Financial gain isn't number one in Gruden's interest (yes, he really is interested in it)in the job. It is much more about the challenge of coaching in the toughest, most competitive conference in the history of college football, AND doing it at the school he loves.
Just because Gruden has a Superbowl ring and an easy high-paying job doesn't mean he isn't interested in coaching again. Gruden would coach high school for a 35k salary if that was all that was available... Same reason we often see some former Titans on the sidelines working for free for a Nashville area high school....because they love the game.
He may not come to UT, but he is most definitely interested in the job, and also expressed interest a few years ago when it was open.

My wife's, cousin's, brother's, sister was getting her hair done at Alimony in Knoxville and overheard them saying that it was going to be Baylor's head coach coming to Knoxville.

He was available when Dooley was hired and he's available now. There have been coaching changes in college football every year. I think he's feigning interest, if he's even in the picture at all, to keep from offending anyone. Just my opinion.

Really? Feigning interest? He would do that to the school he loves? Peyton Manning and Jimmy Haslam would fall for it? If he isn't seriously considering this, does anyone believe the athletic department or Gruden would allow all the chatter to persist this long? If there is nothing to it, someone is setting the next coach up with the added stress of being a disappointing hire in the eyes of the fan base.
Regardless of the eventual outcome, Gruden's interest in the UT job is real.
