tanning the hide

Does anybody have any experience with tanning the hides off of your deer? I feel bad just throwing it away but dont know much else to do it. The wife has plenty of throws so what other uses could I have for it?

I would love to do one some day when I feel like going through all the work. All the fat and thin muscle layer on the skin, would be a big pain to remove I think, I always throw it away. But sometimes I skin and save the tail, good lure making material. If I ever get back to the beach I will be able to tie my own bucktail jigs for the summer flounder.

Ive always wanted to get into tying flies because I fly fish in the spring and summer but that is just a whole nother chore that takes up a lot more money and time than what I have to spend on it.

Many ways of doing it.
Google was my friend when I did my deer skin. Lots of work but pretty cool.

Tried a couple as a kid. It was a lot of work and turned out stiff as heck. I would send it to a pro.
