I shoot 7mm08 too . I was using federal ballistic tips when this happened . Switched to core locks never had issue again .

Idk why people are bashing ballistic tips they are great bullets it's all about shot placement. I do not shoot them any more i shoot the hornady sst and they are out standing. If you make a bad shot it does not matter what bullet you use.

I have shot no telling how many deer with a 7mm/08 and have not lost any. I would guess u made a non lethal hit. I dont use ballistic - not my favorite bullet.

Im tryin to not bash the bullets. Ive killed the majority of my deer with balistictips but thats from my 30-06 and dads 308. This was the first deer ive shot with the 7-08 so i didnt know if maby the smaller bullet may be more fragile compared to the 165gr 30 cal im use to. I wanna go back tomorro but its a 2hour drive there and im soposed to spend time with the wife and kids. We may have to tale a sunday drive and look for buzzards. I had my dad and a buddy with me while tracking him and they couldnt believe that it gotaway with the amount of blood lost when we jumped him the 2nd time. Dad acually saw the deer when we jumped him that last time and said all he could see was its a** end but it looked to be pushin the fromt of its body.

I just bought the gun about a month ago and bought these to use this year. There the 140gr federal premium balistictips. I shot 12 at the range and it loved em do i figured itd work. I plan on reloading for it as soon as i can find a set of dies. I will have to try accubonds when i start. Ive herd alot of good stuff about em. I loaned my 30-06 out to a friend for his first hunt or i think id be celebrateing a kill right now. I trust a 30cal alot more hunting that area. I shot him in a swamp and the area he ran to was clearcut last year and has alot of dead tree tops down that didnt help with the tracking.

if you hit him in the same place with that 30-06 that you did with the 7mm08, the results would have been the same.

One of these days people will realize that ballistic tips are not a good choice unless you have a perfect broadside shots every time. Ballistic tips and shoulder bones dont mix
