price was no problem (it always is but if it wasn't) what would you buy? I'm going to buy myself a Christmas present this year and it's going to be a new muzzleloader. I've been looking at the TC Pro Hunter...but, I'd like to know what you would get if price wasn't a problem...oh, and what scope would you hang on it?....thanks

My cva optima elite will stack them in at 200 yards. I'm shooting 150 grains of the IMR white hots and the 250 shockwaves. Killed a doe this year at 213. Bang flop.

Would go smokeless. I'm tired of looking at pitting no matter how hard I clean.

You could get an Encore smokeless conversion and have the best of both worlds.

$200 CVA Wolf has no problems making a 200yd shot with great accuracy. If you check out prbullet.com, you can use their bullets, and get one of their center fire primer breech plug kits for it. Run 150gn of powder, and a 300gn bullet, and you'll drop whatever sits in front of it.

A smokeless unless you'd rather stick with blackpowder. I'm waiting for another company to produce a smokless model. Until then, I'll shoot my old Knight against any other muzzleloader with confidence. Its super accurate and they can be purchased for very cheap but aren't the easiest to clean and prime...

So you gotta clean it who cares don't be lazy. The cva accura is probably the best ml out there i would stay away from the smokeless. I love seeing the smoke smokeless is overrated. It's good to clean your guns anyway if you take care of them they will take care of you. I would stay away from Knight and the savage smokeless if i were you that's just my opinion.

Ever had a smokeless?

I recommend savage ml II, cva accura , or pro hunter. Very familiar with all.3 but prefer and have had more fun with smokeless.

until you buy a savage, you have not bought your last muzzleloader. i had a salesman tell me that when i bought a cva .45 cal back in 2002. decent gun, but about 400 fps slower than my buddies savage and half as accurate, bouth the savage ml 2 IN 2005 and i am done. no cleaning, ever!!! no smoke!! accutrigger and a tack driver. plus 2400 fps.

Savage will not disappoint. If you prefer the Encore and want .45, have a 45-70 barrel tapped for a Savage breechplug. Unless you just love the smell of black powder, DEFINITELY smokeless.

I love my optima elite, I have 2 lowers, and about 15 barrels. Fun to play with love having a .45 and a .50 give me the options of a sledge hammer or a slightly flatter sledge hammer. And at 200 yds with either no problem. Spend the real money on a super high quality scope.

Bad Bull Muzzleloader. It is a beast! 3100 fps at the muzzle. It uses smokless powder. If i had the extra money I would have one. But I will just shoot my $100 Remington Genesis that I got off of Cabelas bargain cave. Then i have my ole knight at a backup. Both shoot 2" group at 100 yards. Good enough for me. 2 777 pellets and 200 grain shockwaves out of both.

I would recommend a savage ml2, but with a smokeless conversion .45, you can shoot a .45 bullet at 3000+fps and doesnt have half the recoil. If price wasn't an option and you had a few weeks for work to be done on it, thats the way to go.

LMAO.....You Gotta be kidding me!
I have owned the CVA,Knight,Encore and the Savage .....There is no comparison. The Savage hands down is the best over the counter ML for your money without getting into the high $$$ custom types such as the Bad Bull which runs $3000 to $4000 or more depending on model and in my opinion they are not as user friendly as the Savage. I was shooting the Savage b/4 most people ever even heard of it.

Savage Smokeless ML-II. Furthermore, I would rather spend my money to buy a ML-II as have one of the other companies GIVE me one of their smoke poles. For real. Yes, it really is that much better, at least in my eyes it is. (as well as MANY others, many of whom posted above). Best of luck with your decision.

I shoot both smokers (BH209) and smokeless (Remington conversion) and I like both at times. I can tell you there is not a smoker out there that can hang anywhere close to a .45 smokeless conversion. Not bashing what anyone shoots, just a ballistics fact.

If you say smokeless is overrated its because you have never shot one!!! I can guarantee you will fall in love

I have an Encore Prohunter right now but plan on taking the smokeless plunge this spring w/ a 45/70 conversion.

I have a TC Encore and would buy another one tomorrow if I was in the market. Mine is the original before the Pro Hunter came out. Whatever it is I'd get stainless.

I bought my Savage in 2000 or 2001, most haven't even heard of them then. Best decision I ever made.
