Somebody had asked that I re-post this story because they had just lost a buck they thought should have died.

Last year, I shot this doe with the bow. There was very little blood, and I never found the arrow. I looked and looked to no avail. I thought it was a good shot but didn't know for sure until I got these trail camera photos.

I saw this girl later during rifle season. I almost shot her just to do an autopsy and find out why in the world she didn't die. But I was askeered it might tick her off, and she might climb up my tree and murder me!

ENTRANCE WOUND

EXIT WOUND

A COUPLE WEEKS LATER - HEALING UP PRETTY WELL

THESE PHOTOS ARE FROM A COUPLE MONTHS AGO, A LITTLE MORE THAN A YEAR AFTER THE INITIAL SHOT. THIS GIRL IS COMPLETELY HEALED.

BOO!

I was wondering about that deer this year. I bet you got one lung and she somehow survived it.

First off... I don't know how you could ask for a better shot. I would think it hit both lungs there as well. Now, as for these quotes, I would think you wouldn't want these robot genes to spread to the other deer. ;\) I would hunt her exclusively!!! \:\/

By the looks of the entrance and exit holes I don't think a muzy or slick trick would have brought this old gal down either.

Musta been shooting a rage. High entrance, low exit equals one lung maybe and very little blood. Of course, if you are shooting a Rage, you can hit them in the cloaca and kill them.

I'd let her pass for the rest of her life...which should be about 30 seconds if she's in range.

Thanks for re-posting, Gil.

That's crazy!! A shot like that with any kind of broadhead should have got at least top of one lung... Yep, lifetime pass for her. Who knows, she may bring a state record by you tomorrow.. I wouldn't shoot her again that's for sure!

Thanks for posting!

A mechanical BH that didn't open properly is likely to blame. Was it a sharp/new BH? The shot placement was near perfect, like others said, she's lucky.

Yup, a Rage mechanical blade. By the huge size of the entrance and exit wounds, it appears the blade deployed, so I can't explain it. I wish I had found the arrow to confirm.

THIS^^^^

Hear all the time, "It was a great shot I don't know what happened" and you think to yourself, "It must have not been a great shot or it would be dead." No way would I believe it without the pics.

I was thinking about Gil's doe earlier this season. Hit a doe with a NAP 125gr Spitfire. Lumenok showed excellent positioning. Blades fully deployed, blood coated shaft, but she took off like a rocket and never looked back. Just a few drops of blood were found. Two days of searching, nothing, not even buzzards.
Based on Gil's photos, I have scoured every game camera pic from the farm since that day, but she never turned up.
I hope she made it.
