Got to take my Thanksgiving holiday a little early this year, so I headed to our farm Tuesday afternoon. I've had a couple of people ask me for deer to eat, so I tried to oblige them . . .

With my obligatory doe kills out of the way, I decided to head to a different piece of property the next morning where we had some good deer on trail cams. I decided to hunt a new stand I've never hunted, and had deer moving at first light. Around 7:00, I had two does come through the woods in front of me and then a buck appeared behind them. One quick look with binoculars and I knew he was a shooter, but he had already gotten into thick woods so I watched him through my scope as he walked away never giving me a clear shot. A few minutes later ,as I cussed myself for not getting my gun up immediately when I saw him, I looked up to see him 200 yards to my right in a logging road, but walking straight away and out of sight. Another few minutes passed and I saw 2 does run across the logging road near where I had last seen the buck, and to my delight, he was right behind them, but he never stopped to give me a shot. At this point I though he was gone for sure, but moments later I heard deer running towards me. Two does appeared in the logging road right in front of me, both visibly tired and panting. They stood for just a second and then they were off again. I assume they were trying to lose the buck, and they picked the right path to do just that because seconds later he entered the logging road 40 yards away. Best deer hunt I've ever had, and my personal best buck.

makes it even better when he walks away 2 or 3 times and you think youve lost him, happens to me a lot except my deer never come back
