Buy him a bicycle. When he gets tired of peddling, he will get a job and get his own. He obviously has no business driving a car.

Tell him and his mother...to STFU and deal with it.

I hate to read all this Mark and with the wife sticking with his side makes it ever harder. Three accidents in three months, sorry but certain people need to wake up to the truth. The insurance companies have already woke up and have written him off, they have the numbers and they know the odds are he's going to have another one and soon. If I had any kids that were friends of his and knew about this I would never let them in a car with him driving.

This is not something where the insurance companies are the bad guy here but they are the good guy, it might not look like it but they are saving his life and any other kids that are in the car with him.

Another thing to keep in mind. If you all think the insurance rates are high then wait until later. If he keeps driving without any insurance and has another accident then YOUR LEGAL problems will be 10 times what the insurance is now. If someone gets hurt or worst then you are looking at 100 times the dollar amount and up. A $900,000 lawsuit against you as his parents would be CHEAP.

I don't know that there is a law as I'm not a lawyer. I was told by an attorney a few years ago that if you have an adult aged family member or minor living with you that you financially support that you might be held liable should that person injure or kill someone with a vehicle that you maintain, put gas in, etc. He didn't go into a lot of detail, but I get the feeling that he was probably talking about being liable in a civil suit. I can see it happening in a trial setting with a jury. Hopefully, nobody will have to find out.

My dad grew a set and made me walk and bike for six months because I kept getting tickets. Didn't kill me. May have saved my life. Sure I hated him for a few months. But I learned real quick and I would not think twice about doing the same to my kids or anyone else I was responsible for

Just saying. Sorry for Ur situation

If your wife just got laid off, she can be his transportation provider. I would cancel his insurance and sell his car.

I'll tell you what happens when someone besides the driver pays the car note and/or the insurance and the driver gets into a serious wreck...
The attorneys for the injured parties go after EVERYONE who pays the bills.
I know this because my ex got into a wreck with 2 sheriffs deputies riding in the same squad car busted a light and she t-boned them. They did not have lights ir sirens on. They sued her for $2 million each. Their attorneys left no stone unturned looking into who was paying her bills, with the intent of dragging them into court also. Thankfully the car was paid off and she paid her own insurance. BTW, the cops injuries were not physical, but for PTSD associated with the accident.
This took over 2 years to drag through the court system before it was over.
What a nightmare.

m.Creek, for one, I know moms get involved thinking they know everything, (I almost did that with our youngest son 19, so it might be an instinct! but she needs to wise up, like I did) but I say we could not afford insurance that high, and maybe he needs to get a job or go to school, and someone in the family give him a ride for that. It's stressful, I hope it gets better for your family!

Simple. DON'T

The school still sends busses, correct? Driving is a privilege, not a right. If he can't prove himself worthy to safely operate a vehicle, you have no business providing him a method to achieve strike 4.

I live on a fixed income and the wife got laid off, so there is no room for error. I know if I make the decision that he is on his own with the car and insurance, the s@$! Will hit the fan.

Are you a parent or a doormat? Untuck your wiener from between your legs, and stand up to someone for once. This is ridiculous. "Tough It-Shay" should've been the first thing out of your mouth at the last wreck.
