Made my first donation today, and from what I understand they need all the deer they can take. As sportsmen I feel that it is our responsibility to help those in need. If you field dress the deer it cost you nothing. If not than most charge $15. If you are able and have the resources to do so, please donate a harvested deer.

The way they process the deer, I refuse. They grind the whole thing and blend it with 40-50% fat. At that point, Why don't you just give out McDonalds hamburgers? That's just me, though.

Poser you are not correct about the process. The link below tells more about the program, and also the mission behind this program. There is a PDF of participating locations for drop off

I looked at it on my phone and don't see anything about the actual process. I have seen a HFTH work order sheet at a processor before and it was for exactly as I described. I even clarified with the processor to be sure. I don't doubt the intent, I just don't agree with the the actual process because I had rather see venison I kill be used more directly. -not knocking anyone, that's just me.

Poser I think that whoever the processor is must be extremely generous that he would donate his beef fat to add to the deer. They are paid per deer that is checked in to them, so if he is adding beef in order to stretch the meat, than what a great American.

Not all donations are free; the processors have a prepaid quota and once that is exhausted, if you want to donate you have to pay for the processing.

Go to the link provided and follow the link on that page to the quota sheet.
