I've always been infatuated with lever rifles, anyway. So it was a natural choice when someone offered to sell me his for $150. I absolutely love shooting it.

My brother in law has a Marlin 30-30 that he has killed some deer with. Some of our shots though can reach out over 250+ so he went ahead and bought a 30-06. Any short range areas he can use his 30-30 and take some down.

I always wondered why the 30.30 come almost exclusively in a lever action. Do they even make a bolt action rifle for that caliber?

The .30-30 round is designed with a round nose so as not to strike the primer of the round loaded ahead of it in a tube magazine. I see no justification for designing a bolt-action rifle around a round-nosed bullet.

Deadly, deadly deer round.
I think most of us just got the itch to have that latest and greatest toy.
My grandfather's 70's era Marlin will outshoot my bolt gun (with me shooting both).
I had a Marlin I sold that I very much wish I had back.
