i have a 1950 lever action marlin 336 in 30-30 is there a way to mount a scope on top with a side mount that is not offset without drilling the reciever

Not likely, I checked B square mounts (who would probably be the best source) They don't list anything for that application.
Drilling and tapping will probably be your only route...........
Personally, I wouldn't do it to mine if it was of that era.
