Can't wait to get back out Thurs-Sat. I have one specific very large buck on my mind. I usually shoot every doe I get the chance. Better to let them walk now or does it matter? How early before shooting light do you get to your stand?

I can tell you from recent (Sat) experience - let her walk - I took a doe at about 0620 and at 0621 a real nice 8 followed her down the same trail.

I had a shot at him, but missed - \:\( I should have waited -

I'm in at least 30 minutes prior to light, but I have a short walk and don't transit a lot of woods - it I was crossing a long way I'd get in sooner -

ferg....

I am now more hesitant to shoot one than I was I the early season however there is one old, smart doe I need to kill or I feel she will keep busting me and ruin hunts.

Do what makes you happy, I personally wait till December mainly because we have cooler weather so I can let them hang overnight and by that time of year my trigger finger gets really itchy!

Blast away.. I shot a doe Saturday morning.
Had a pretty big 6 point following her..probably ten yards behind..
When I shot..she dropped and he came up to her and i though he was going to try and breed her..darnest thing i have seen in a while.
lol

It isn't the killing of the doe that matters. It is human intrusion of retrieving her that can be a problem. Just keep the downed deer retrieval activity to a minimum.

I posted this pic once before, so please forgive, but here's the buck:

I think he may have a few years on him. I know he is on my farm year round. However I fear that he is bedding in a 14 year old 150 acre cutover across the road. I have killed a few mature bucks but usually hunt based on location, not with a particualr deer in mind. This one I think may be worth holding out for.

BSK, can dragging a doe out act as a cover scent for your tracks?

If you shoot one out from in front of him, there's a good chance he'll go the other way. There's a slight chance that he'll hang around. They're all different.
