We had a rather mild winter last yr. and the deer were looking really good all summer, but since the season started a month ago, they seem to have all gone away. We have been having above normal temps. and no mast crops at all this yr.

I have seen @ dozen does so far, but hunt in a buck only area of the state. Last night I sent my son over to sit on a Oak covered finger ridge that makes its way down into the creek bottom/swamp. I was going to walk the bottom and edge of the swamp in hopes of pushing something up the ridge to him.

Just before dark, as I was approaching the end of the ridge where it meets the creek, I crossed a small feeder stream and was standing in it taking a look around before moving on, out of no where a deer explodes into action @ 50 yds to my rt. in the wide open. Well, it appears my son kicked it off the ridge and it headed for the swamp, but I was already in there. The deer(buck) was standing in the middle of the creek on a sand bar and I looked right through him, TWICE!!!!!! I never saw him, I guess the brain was not expecting to see a deer standing in the middle of the creek...................LOL.

Long story short, before I could get the crosshairs on him he made two jumps and crashed off into the thick brush along the creek. The only buck I have seen in the woods all season, and I got busted!!!!!!!

Sorry for the whinning session, but I feel better now........lol.

Never fails to amaze me that a 200 pound mostly-solid-colored animal can be entirely invisible while standing in plain sight! God makes some good camo, don't He?

Hang in there, FullD; even I managed to get a deer this year. I do believe it's a sign of the End Times. You're bound to get your trophy yet!

Yep, don't ever give up. If you don't get to shoot a buck, just enjoy being out in the outdoors. \:\)

I hear that. I've had them within 20 yards on stand before I knew they were there and had looked over them I know 2 or 3 times.

Well, we had a crazy morning in the woods. @ 7:25 my son Nate texts me and said he had a small doe hanging out in frt of him for @ 15 mins @ 15 yds away.
@ 8ish I had a deer walk by me at @ 30 yds in the brush so thick I could only see patches of deer/leg/etc. So I bleated at it and the next thing all heck breaks loose, I hear deer coming in hard, I hear bleating and grunting and a buck is chasing a doe at full gallop, they got to within 25 yds and ran circles in the brush, all I could see again was flashes of deer parts.
Then Nate texts me again, and said he heard a ruckus and grunt noises near him @ 50 yds away but can't see anything
Then I hear a deep throat growl off to my left, so I bleat, deer comes in........................stayed in same brush patch as the first deer did..........only legs, and pieces parts.
I am so freaking frustrated right now I could puke...................:(

That sux, can you set up a bit different so they don't get lost in that patch?
A different side or further out the trail?

Yeah, gonna have to re evaluate the set up. I really like the general area, but that seems to be the problem with it. It is more heavy brushy areas with an opening here and there, I actually thought I would have better shooting from where I set up, until the deer actually went through the area and I realized NOT!!!!!!!
Headed out for a job interview this morning, hittin' the woods hard this afternoon and the rest of the weekend.
