The ones I've seen on tv look as difficult as shooting a cow. Maybe they're not all that way but they don't look like much of a "hunt" to me.

The only way I would do it would be a free range hunt. There are several Indian reservations that you can hunt free range buffalo on out west.

If I ever draw a WY tag around Jackson Hole I will be ecstatic...but it is a weather dependent hunt and they have to be in your zone. They are free range and spend most their time in the park, so you may spend a long time watching and waiting for them to come down. Once you kill one you better have all your ducks in a row; horses, taxidermist, and processors all need to be on stand by. Awesome meat too!

I keep building up my Once In A Lifetime bonus points in Utah for a buffalo hunt. They have one of the few free range herds, Henry Mountains. This is an incredibly tough hunt up in the mountains. No standing on the open plains looking dumb for these guys.

I'd shoot one if given the chance, but mainly as a way of stocking the freezer, unless I was on some sort of hunt that felt more like an adventure (like some previous posters have described).
Otherwise, the excitement wouldn't be a whole lot different than hunting in a box blind looking over a food plot and picking out a doe for the freezer.

A free range buffalo (UT, AZ or AK) is anything BUT sitting in a ground blind.
Rinella's book was an excellent read. he took his buffalo in Alaska. Just the description ofpacking out the meat, while trying to keep ahead of bears, makes it worthwhile.
Now, there are game farms where you can go out and shoot the one the farmer points out and he will pick it up in his front end loader...

The last few deer I have shot were grazing in a field like a cow. I wouldnt call it a "hunt" either... they eat good. Isnt that what matters?

Didn't say anything was wrong with it. Just doesn't sound interesting to me. That said I have no problem shooting a deer grazing like a cow.
