What's with these shipping charges??

Man, I've never seen so many sporting goods online places with these HIGH shipping prices.
Here's an example. I was placing an order for one single item that was listed at $18.39 and the shipping charge for it was $19.79, MORE THAN THE ITEM I WAS ORDERING.
I can get the same thing here in a store in Paducah for $22.95 plus tax and it's CHEAPER.
We USED to find good deals on line and if ordering from a different state there was no sales tax so it was ever better. Just last year I was regulary paying between $6.99 and $8.99 and up now the shipping charges are starting around $20 and go up from there. WHY??? Did UPS go up that much??

I ship with ups all the time.. with the headaches I sometimes have with them... $20 aint neer nuff...

There are multiple options for free or reasonable shipping out there. You just need to search around online. For example, Gander Mountain has free shipping all the time on everything.
