Ok so here is my situation and there isn't really anything I can do about it. My neighbors land (about 4acres) joins our land on an old logging road on top of a ridge for a grand total of about 20 yards. My neighbors kid every afternoon gets up on the road above my best stand location and shoots usually between 50-100 rounds through his .22 rifle over a span of about an hour before dark. That I don't guess I can do anything about, but now he has started shooting my posted signs and my other (good) neighbors posted signs and gate! this kid is 15 or 16 years old and I'm about ready to give him something his mom and dad should of done a long time ago!! Sorry I had to rant to somebody.. It gets really annoying sitting in stand trying to see a deer when some kid is standing above you shooting up stuff. I don't know how he affords all the bullets he blows through.

If he's firing bullets at your property (your signs have monetary value), then there *is* something you can do about it.
I would talk to his parents first. if that goes nowhere, the law will certainly put a scare into him.

Oh yea I guess I should of added my (good) neighbor and myself have talked to the parents and they acted as if it wasn't a big deal. This took place back in September and its still going on. Hate to call the law on the kid but its getting to that point. I don't mess with their property and I expect the same in return.

Call the law. Time to teach the kid, and more importantly the parents, a lesson.

That will be a nice wake-up call to both the parents and the kids once the law gets to their house.

I would hate a call the law on a kid for shooting a .22. God knows I shot them where I shouldn't have when I was that age, however, if a neighbor ever told my dad that I was shooting where I shouldn't have been, he would have put an end to it in no uncertain terms. The parents are more to blame for not stopping it than the kid is for doing it. Unfortunately, if they won't do anything about it, you aren't left with many options. I guess I would call the sheriff.

Call the law if he is being that careless and his parents are to it's just a matter of time before he really crosses the line.

If he is shooting toward an into your property line then that is reckless endanerment, also shooting the posted signs can be seen as vandalism or destruction of property so yes, there is plenty you can do, he shoot all he wants on his land but the bullets have to stay on his land

I know that it may be annoying but, him simply shooting during your "prime time" is not a crime. I would have another talk with the parents and have the kid there and let them know that someone has been shooting signs again and ask the kid to keep an eye out for trespassors and such so that you can contact the law about it. Explain how it costs you time and money to replace them and not to mention it's unsafe.
I would exhaust all other methods to resolve the problem before I called the law on a kid because after all if the parents don't know any better how could the kid.
Maybe you could consider and/or offer to "mentor" the kid in hunting and teach him some values??

There is also a law against hunter harrassment...and if he's shooting that much every evening it would easliy be harrasment.

There is a possibility heisbreaking all kinds of laws. One the comes to mind that has some teeth is reckless endangerment.
Bottom line. Call the police and file a report. A visit fromt he cops is a good wakeup for the neighbors. I would not fiddle fart around either. I would call now.

All it takes is a knock on the door (try to not look like the uni-bomber when you visit), and a word with his parents. It will shut down his random shooting quick!

Call the law and let them handle it as a reckless endangerment case. Might finally wake him - and his parents - up.

I'd get a written estimate for the value of the trees he's been filling with lead. A mill saw wouldn't like those little lead bullets much. Present the estimate to the parents of the little turd. Tell them the next step wears a badge. I think you've been more than neighborly to this point.

Another thing - if you said that he is doing it over the span of about an hour, then (when you get to the point of being ready to call the cops) call when he first starts shooting.
Chances are, the cops will arrive while he's still outside shooting, so that there's better documentation of the behavior.
Like others have said, it would be better for the parents to step in and handle things, but if they don't...

I'd go back to the parents. He is a 16 year old kid and come on, we have all shot posted signs and a few of us have had our a$$es busted for it....if the parents don't respond to your charitable 2nd attempt them I'd call the law...if the parents won't stop this now then it's a matter of time til he becomes a familiar face at the courthouse any how

Sounds like the kid is interested in the outdoors and has nobody to take him... How bout you go down there and ask him if he would like to hunt with.you ? Slowly gain his trust and start teaching him how dangerous what he is doing could be. He might become a hunter one day and that would be bc you helped him understand stuff that maybe his father couldn't or didn't have time to do. May be gods way of telling you that kid needs help or you simply need to PASS IT ON what you love so much....the great outdoors.

Have you actually tried to converse with THE KID?
A 16yr-old isn't a man, but he's not a child, either. Be up-front and direct with him, but be gracious and respectful at the same time. You might be surprised. Good chance no one else in his life treats him that way, if they pay attention to him at all.
Give it a shot... I sure would before I damaged my relationship with my neighbors (maybe for good) by bringing in the law.

Worse case senario one of those 50-100 bullets he is shooting does something crazy(hits a limb, rock, posted sign,gate...) and the next thing in its path is you. Not saying it would but saying it would be too late if it did. He neds to understand the importance of knowing what is beyond what your shooting because you never know when its a person. I have no tolerance for careless parents. The parents need to be educated more than the kid does. Call the sheriff
