Man where to begin. How bout the beginning, Haha. so I left home at about 4:20am to head out. Make it to the main road to the hunting property and blam. Flat tire. I wont run a flat on the rim so I give it a change. I make it to where we park. Now, this is only the 2nd time I have ever hunted on this property. 1st time was last year as a guest.

We all meet at the parking area and discuss where everyone is hunting. I don't have a 4 wheeler so I was gonna hunt close. a couple of the guys say put your pop up blind up and watch the atv trail. "We always see deer". yeah right. with limited options I set up and am good to go by 5:45.

At 615 it begins to get interesting. A nice doe comes out at 60 yards and then gets spooked ant turns tail and hauls a%$. 628 another doe pokes her head out and gets across before I could get the cross hairs in the good spot. Dang it.

So I see how my day is going to be. 725am a tall rack 6 appears at about 150 yards. I get the ole scope up and he stares my direction and senses something ain't quite right. He wasn't offering a shot. I start to get the shakes. Yup....I got the fever. I tried to control it the best I could and he offered a quartering shot and I squeezed the trigger. BOOM!! He dosen't react like I have seen before. he just trotted away. Hmmm. I give it about 15 minutes and go see if I can find blood, hair, whatever. Zilch, nada, nothing. Yup one of those days I guess.

I get back to the blind, light up a smoke and pour a cup of joe playing the morning events over in my head for a few minutes. What did I do....what could I have done different, etc. I started doughting my abilities with my weapon, my nerves, you name it. Then it hit me....that's hunting.

The 8 point: 829am. Watching the trail I see movement at about 115 yards out. I see horns. Heart starts beating a little faster. He steps out I get him in my scope....well outside the ears and start the count 1,2,3,4,5...you get the picture. I make my mind up and settle on the spot. Danged if he didn't turn with his back to me....no shot. Cursing starts in my mind. Still holding and he turns for a shot. I let the Savage bark...BOOM. He spins 180 degrees, wobbles a little and runs into the wood line. I sit for a few and collect my thoughts thinking I hit him. while I'm reflecting I see more movement. Maybe 75 yards. I raise the rifle hoping for a doe. what do I see. The same buck. Before the 1st shot I had him in my sights for a full 60-75 seconds, so I got a real good look. Yup same Buck. I watched him for a full 45 seconds to verify. He was moving pretty slow. Once I had the shot I took it. Dropped in his tracks.

I learned more today than I have in the 6 years I have been deer hunting. Buck fever is real. Man that hyped up nervous feeling is one heck of a rush. I learned about the highs and lows of deer hunting in one day. My past experiences is usually seein 1 deer every 6 or 7 hunts.

It is my biggest deer to date. He's no monster but I am dang proud to have him. And yes I know.....he'd been better next year. LOL.

Oh and as a bonus. I got checked by TWRA. Ty Inman seems to be a very nice guy. He checked my license and checked out the deer. Ended up taloking for about 30 minutes or so.

Couldn't find it. The shot that dropped him was extremely hard to find that one too. No blood at all, but insides were tore all to heck.
