I feel like I've been cursed this year. It's been hard enough to get into the woods, but even then, errors and misfortune plague me. So far I have arrowhead one deer but failed to penetrate the shoulder. I clean missed a solid 6-pter on ML opener. Finally two days ago I pulled a shot on a little buck that could not be found.
So this morning I have pulled out all the stops and have contracted a professional guide. He is much younger than me, but already has 5 kills to his name this season. He admittedly is only out this morning for either a Booner or, as he says, for the benefit of The Client.
He has taken me so deep into the woods and on such a convoluted trail that I suspect he has no regard for my health. I am starting to regret showing him where I stashed my truck keys, but take some consolation in knowing that should be avail himself of my vehicle for even an hour, he will not be 100 feet from where I parked, for it is a stick.
If he does have my demise in mind, he will be rudely awakened. I have pistachios, two Diet Dews, and am ready to disappear into the woods for long periods of time, as I have done before. Experience assures me that eventually the Rescue Squad will find me and lead me out!

My guide has been sending me undated photos of deer ostensibly moving through his stand area. I have come to doubt the veracity of these, particularly the one where the deer seems to be... propped up? And there is a Waffle House in the background.
The times here at my stand are hard like the frozen ground beneath me. Fortunately a root has pinched off blood supply, and my legs are no longer cold. The squirrel seems content chewing on my boot, however, I do not recall putting on red socks. Expect a later report as I am able.

My guide has obviously conspired with the Area Manager and has killed a deer. Again. At the approximate 4 miles from our vehicles, it is now clear why he has brought me here.

Experience assures me that eventually the Rescue Squad will find me and lead me out! Just call 911 on your cell phone and they will tell you where you are and you can lead yourself out. I know that from experience at Catoosa one night.
