High Country on the board, finally!!! $\:D$ First deer I've seen all year, well technically the 5th deer I seen this year but all 5 were today. Saw a smaller buck chasing 2-does earlier this morning, then had a doe fawn come in about an hour later, then this big boy showed up. Shot him at 1:45 today, nose to the ground, 50-yard shot with a 50-yard recovery. 165 lbs. field dressed, shot him with a 50cal. T/C Encore Pro Hunter with 295gr powerbelt hollow point (no pass thru) but then again that's about 10 or 12 shot with powerbelts and recovered all.

Funny how this year has gone for me. I hunt public land exclusively (Cherokee National Forest) and the place I usually hunt has all the sudden dried up, no deer, no pics of deer, no sigh of deer. So I moved to my old reliable stand, again on Cherokee National Forest. I've killed 5 mature bucks from this stand which I like to call 5-point, because 5 different hollers come together in a bowl. Well today made #6, I'm super excited about this one, my biggest bodied buck to date and quite possibly the largest rack, have to measure it first.

I can't stress enough how tough it is to kill very pressured bucks on public land where the deer population according to TWRA runs below 10-deer per square mile, it's probably more like 5 or less here in Unicoi County. If I could give an up and coming hunter advise for hunting bucks like this. Pick a spot, trust your scouting and stay put. I've hunted weeks on end and never lay eyes on a deer but when it finally happens more times than not it's well worth the wait. I've logged a lot of hours on the stand this year with zero deer sightings, today it all paid off. As old Phil would say, Happy... Happy... Happy... $\:D$
