I don't have the time right now to do a full study on this, but I will give you the highlights of the big one.
Study the date May 14, 1948.
One that day, something very special happened...that was prophesied about many times in the old testament prophetic books...from Amos, Isaiah, Ezekiel, Jeremiah. Those books speak of a destroyed nation of Israel, being reborn and recognized as a sovereign and united nation....inhabiting the land it once inhabited, being stronger than it once was before, and being recognized by other nations. That is a prophetic event that happened in some of us here's lifetime. On May 14, 1948, Israel declared its independence and was recognized by the US and the world on that same day, as a sovereign nation.
See that was a VERY important stepping stone to the prophecy you find in Daniel and Revelation, dealing with the great tribulation period. It is in this time, that the church is gone...and the anti Christ has taken control. He and his army will descend upon Israel to destroy it once and for all...and ALL NATIONS will turn their back on Israel. It has to be this way...no help from anybody. When the odds are stacked against them and all hope seems lost...it is at this time the Lord returns to "clean house" and it is then that they recognize Him as the Messiah.
But in order for this to have been doable...Israel would need to be a nation again, and its people would have to inhabit Jerusalem. For most of the period prior to 1948, the Jews were dispersed all across the world. Hitler had killed millions of them and many were in hiding. They had also been moved out of Jerusalem and the Promised Land that is rightfully theirs. In 1948 they became a nation. Just hours later, they were attacked by Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Iraq, and Lebanon...all invaded Israel. Even though they were vastly outnumbered, Israel won the war and expanded its size by about 50%. In 1967, Israel fought the famous 6 day war...and for the first time in 2000 years, they took control of Jerusalem and even more territory to boot.
There are many many more but this one was the big one and why Israel is so significant. The others are merely signs of the times...I.E. Wars and rumors of wars, earthquakes in divers places, etc. There have always been wars and earthquakes...but it's the more and more frequent and more and more violent part of it that stands out. I could preach all day on signs of the last days; especially on men being lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God...and the condition the church would be found in, during the last days.
