! used to hunt there every year on the open archery hunt. I always saw deer and always killed on the open archery hunts. This was in the late 70's and early 80'8. As I remember, Catoosa had one of the highest kill rates, for a WMA, in the state.
I haven't hunted it since the A/R's were put in place but when I look at the kill numbers for Catoosa, the total kill for the year on the area is about what the kill use to be for the archery hunts.

Yeah, don't know the reasons, but it just doesn't seem to be producing any more or any bigger bucks than were there before the restrictions.

I think the problem with catoosa is more how the hunts are set up. Its way to crowded and way to many 4wheeleres buzzing through the woods. I think if they opened the bow season for the whole season like LBL and lowered the # of quota's on each hunt it would help i also think they need to allow 4 Wheelers to retrieve game only. I think if they did that it would lower a lot of the hunting pressure

Birddog I am with you on the four wheelers for sure theres one on every path to be found. Would really like to see the quota of hunters cut in half and the length of the hunt doubled. More days would allow for better weather. I was on the gun hunt last week. My group did well we saw 6 bucks 3 legal and 3 not legal and several does. But time restrictions and 2500 people keeps you from scouting and hunting properly IMO

I see way too many dead deer over there. People shoot them and leave them for the buzzards and coyotes..
That is what is called a "Ground Check". People shoot...then check the points...
sad really.....

Is the QDM policy really working there or not? Seems I am not seeing any more big bucks now than 15 yrs ago. What are your experiences? draws should be cut in half. way too many hunters. The best deer I ever seen killed on catoosa was a 6x6 12pt, I mean this hoss was text book 6x6. dressed 210, scored 161.....this was in 1988 when there was "no" antler regs.
