Depends on what forum you look on, and yes, you can make it smokeless. What type of 209 conversion, factory or aftermarket?

You can make it smokeless but it ain't cheap. Literally you can buy a new Savage ML-II for cheaper than you can convert that one.

$250-$275 in excellent condition.1 benefit of the 700 Ml build is that it can be built lighter than a Savage. Savages are not known for the best barrels in stock form. They will shoot the factory 1.5 guarantee. If all you are interested in is a solid MOA gun to 200 yds the stock Savage will suite you fine and you need to look no further. If you want incredible accuracy and increased range and velocity the .45 is the way to go. This will mean rebarelling which ever one you choose. In this light it is cheaper to go with a lower cost 700 ML action VS a Savage action. Also there are a lot more accessories available for the 700 platform VS the Savage.A typical Savage build will tip the scales at 10lbs plus.Several 700 Ml builds have came in around 8 lbs.Substantial weight savings.Personally if I were you I would snag that 700 up and build it as light as possible in a .45 and be done with your forever smokeless dream gun...BTW..if you do not want the 700 send it my way!
