I got about an acre and half food plot surrounded by woods.Its got buck forage oats,winterpeas and Whitetail Int clover all mixed together,some turnip greens too.Looks great the oats have some seed heads on them.The Deer quit using it about 10 days before the juvy hunt and havent been back at all.They were coming real good before that.No hunting pressure,that I know of.Had several trails cameras going.Deer and turkey,no people.Now nothin,no even turkeys.Whats up with that?

ACORNS RULE! Not surprised at all, when acorns are abundant why should the deer come out into a food plot?

Good point,but not even an passer by.Oak trees all around the plot,even a big oak out in the middle of it.

I don't think they like to eat it when it gets big and "tough" I guess you could say. They younger and tender the wheats and oats and such are the better they like it. These frost should make the turnip greens sweater. Maybe they will come back to the turnip greens later on when the acorns get gone. There is probably still alot of acorns left.
Don't feel bad, I saw the first deer in my food plot all year long yesterday morning. Only that one a few pictures at night of deer crossing through it. It has clovers, rape, mustard, oats, wheat, peas, and rye. It kinda looks like a hayfield in late April (kinda sarcastic). You can tell they aint eating it.

At my place the whites are gone and they are moving on to the reds. First doe in the food plot was harvested this morning. I took one saturday, in the woods, browsing on native vegatation and acorns.
I watched no less than 12 does yesterday after the rain broke hitting the dropping red oaks in the pasture across the street. No bucks, no chasing. I suspect the food plots will be more of a draw once all the acorns are gone.
This was the first hard killing freeze and I suspect the cold hearty plants in the plot will be more attractive now. I've got wheat, oats, turnip, radish, peas, and crimnson clover. But like you, deer usage slowed down the last couple of weeks and I attribute that to warm weather, lingering native vegatation, and acorns.

I guess time will tell,I think next year I am going to plant it in strips,instead of mixing it all together.I wonder if bushhogging the oats would help.

One other thing to remember Donk. Some bucks shift their range just before the rut. They move to a completely different location during the 4-6 weeks of breeding, and then return to their normal range post-rut. If your bucks are actually "missing" from the property, they may be rut range-shifters.

acorns are still like carpet in the woods. hoping soon they rot and the deer will come to the wheat and other plots we have
