I get that text from my son last night while I am on the tree stand.First thought was how much is this going to cost me. Text back "what". turns out he wanted to see if he could pull my bow back and got about half way and it exploded. He thought the limb cracked. Well I get home and either 1 or 2 things happened. he torqued the bow when drawing the the string came off the wheel or the cable broke. either way I have my bow in pieces. from what I can tell nothing is cracked or the wheel or cam bent. The string on the cable was in 2 pieces. Thank goodness he was not hurt. Now have to take the bow to the shop to see if its ok and then get new cable and string. By the way the cable and string were only a few months old. Might be hunting the rest of the season with a recurve if something is really wrong

Glad your son is OK...that can be scary. Is your son a teenager? If so, a possible scenario. At least it would have been when I was a teenager.
I draw my dads bow back. Release (dry fire)....call dad....ummm....I don't know what happened dad....swear I don't.....me and billy was just seeing if we could draw it and the sucker exploded......Dry fire?? Of course not...what do you think we are? Stupid?
This would have been my scenario as a teen.

Glad you son is ok. Had that happen to me when I was 18 and it was for sure not a dry fire, the string did come off the cable and the thing exploded. I have scars on my hand to prove it

Bows are fixable or replaceable. Your son's eyes are not. I'm glad he is OK.

Had a cable break on me at full draw cut my middle finger all to hell. It happened so quick i just grabbed it to stop the bleeding. I thought for sure it was cut off until i looked down at it. Still not sure where my arrow went. I was pointed North so maybe Sumner County? It wasn't on the news so I guess it didn't hit nobody. That cable was pretty new but that bow wore it in one spot from the beginning. A friend that had the same bow wore cables too. I fixed mine and sold it on ebay. I had little trust in it after that. It was like keeping around a dog that bit you one time.

My stepson did the same thing with my Mathews a week before opening day last year. He grabbed it and yanked it back. The string cam off of the top cam, it severly bent the bottom cam and the two rubber string stops flew off. It sounded like a gun went off. I wish I would have taken a picture of his arm. There was jelly like blood slowly oozing out of these little pin size holes in a 5" by 3" spot on his forearm. He got a pretty good scar from it. He doesn't pick my bow up anymore.

Glad your son is ok. It is of little importance now because the damage is done. It is rare that a cable would break on its own. It is pretty common for a cable to break when it is dry fired. It could have been a flawed cable but it is more likely that he dry fired it. Like I said it doesn't make any difference in the end it's just good he is ok. You can buy a new cable.
