Just wondering if anyone has hunted in Mississippi. I have been thinking about looking into some areas in Madison and Claiborne counties for early Jan. after season closes here.

I've been hunting in MS for over 40 yrs. Some great hunting in both counties you mention. If I had a choice I'd probably take Claiborne county.

I have hunted Desoto, Marshall and Lafayette. The thing you want to avoid are areas with concentrations of dog hunters. I have nothing against it, but the dog pressure will completely lock deer down in Jan. I have hunted 15+ days without a deer sighting in Jan down there.

Is there public land in the tunics area? I have seen lots of deer, and some really big ones there.

Madison has some of the best hunting in the state. It would be comparable to hunting Williamson County in TN. Big deer interspersed among patures, woods, and subdivisions next to a big city (Jackson). It's on the Big Black River; however, many miles from the mighty Mississippi.

If you're not familiar with the area there are many places in Jackson, MS where it's not safe even in the day time.
