acorns are still like carpet in the woods. hoping soon they rot and the deer will come to the wheat and other plots we have
If you have any red oak variety of acorns in there, don't count on it. They don't rot or go to root until spring.

Oats already showing seed heads?Ive never seen that anywhere near this early.Not says its not happening,you must have planted very early.Deer keep my plots mowed year round though.

Sowed it down about the 3rd week of August.Started raining while I was sowing it.Jumped up and took off.

If you have several hunts on it starting with archery season, hunting pressure may be coming into play as well. It doesn't take much to cause a significant shift in travel patterns. And, just because you haven't had deer blowing the woods down doesn't mean you haven't been detected at a distance, and they are going around this spot or using it nocturnally.
But, my guess is acorns.

They will hammer it when the acorns and browse are gone. Mine is still green and lush. I planted oats, winter peas and brassicas. Late season it was the place to be. I have a 1/4 acre plot and counted 30 deer in at one time. It's always late though.

I have experienced that before too. Then one day after the other food sources are gone, the food plot is eaten down to bare earth.
