If you desire venison then I would personally drop those 2 restrictions. Shoot the next fawn you see and enjoy some of the best meat there is.

I understand, I played sports year around when I was young and never got to do any hunting. After I graduated my brother in law an father in law would always go so I said heck I'll try. Long story short Im on my fourth season and I'm addicted, but that's not before I say every Saturday an never saw a thing. Hang in there buddy you will learn something everytime you hunt.

East TN hunting is tough, especially in public lands.

You can't kill 'em if they aren't there!

Always bring it up in any conversations you have with people who you think might have access to some property.

I gained access to some land via a friend at church many years ago. Her dad owns it in another county. I have hunted it now for close to 20 years, and we are the only ones with permission.

Be persistent, you never know when someone might have some access but you just failed to ask.

Good luck!

I've had to wrap my head around a new philosophy. I'm a results oriented guy, always have been. Results orientation and deer hunting are tough to reconcile. So now I try find simple little things to enjoy during every hunt, whether it be watching squirrels, fox, etc and just being alone in the woods. I took the pressure off myself to kill every time I went out because thats completely unrealistic.

Good luck to ya, you'll get one eventually!

you will get it man! just stay in the deer's world learning about where and when they move and bed down, and keep learning from tndeer and the great internet as well. one day it will all come together and you will find yourself with a deer in your sights as you squeeze the trigger... just hold still, you will be shaking when it happens

I am 40 this year, I started hunting when I was 30... I never had anyone to take me, I just learned most things the hard way... It took 3 full seasons to finally kill that first deer... It was a button buck..I swear that thing was a 180lb 12-point.... I was so proud to get the monkey off my back..... My dad walked out into his yard where the deer fell & just shook his head. I think it actually field dressed around 30 or 40lbs.... But to me it was a monster....

Keep on keepin on.... It will come & It will be sweet.... I promise....

Yes, it was in the corner of my dad's yard..... Hey! Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do!......
