Is the QDM policy really working there or not? Seems I am not seeing any more big bucks now than 15 yrs ago. What are your experiences?

I have been hunting there since the mid 80's. I support the QDM style mgmt there. Unfortunately I really don't see the results that I expected. Don't know the reason. The avg 8 pt that is killed there now IMO is just not worth the difficult hunting. I have always and will always hunt there. I love the place. But the main purpose of Catoosa in timber. The money made off the timber dwarfs the money made from the quota apps. Just look at all the clear cuts

Being that the only deer I saw there during the open bow hunt was a spike, who, by the way spent 15 minutes feeding less than 10yds from my stand. I think the rule should be 4 pts on one side and spikes.

I have been hunting there since 1998. It does not seem like the antler restrictions have had the desired outcome. It does not seem to me like the age structure of the buck population is any better than when they first implemented it in 1998.

The first gun hunt had roughly one buck or every thousand acres. Pretty poor results IMO.

Drop the quota way down and you'll see the bigger bucks. Killing every 2.5 yr old 8 point that comes by doesn't help ether.

I see way too many dead deer over there. People shoot them and leave them for the buzzards and coyotes. We went and told the game wardens about it and they didn't seem to care. I rarely see bucks over there. I haven't put in for that hunt for 3 years now. Not enough deer up there to even justify going up there.

I think it is just fine like it is. That's why it's called hunting, you have to hunt to find where they are, then you have to hunt where they are! I got an 8 pt. the last time I was there and could have had another if they would allow me to take 2 ! The deer there get spooky easy and hit the thick stuff quick! If you want to see the bucks you have to limit yourself to 30-40 yard shots, through some thick limbs/tangles....and a lot of times you will only catch glimpses of them ! 6 out of 8 of us that were there (and one had to leave early due to work) took 4 8pts and 2 10pts and only one of us could get a shot over 40 yards!
