not if they are desparate, lol. i was thinking someone might say something more along the lines of in a V shape with the v pointing east to allow hunting in the outside of the v during eitherly northerly or southerly winds

But it will keep deer using the plot. Shoot deer in a food plot a couple of times, and deer will stop using the plot during daylight.
I have to agree here, after a couple hunting years, food plot usage goes way down during daylight

you fellows must be hunting diff deer than me. i see double digit deer in my plots everytime i hunt them. rarely a mature buck but occasionally. we dont take many deer from the plots except during bow season though.

I've always looked at a pine planting (the thicker the better) with the thought of going into it's interior and cutting a small central area with spokes like a wheel radiating from there. The pines hide the plot and provide excellent cover and bedding area and the food draws the deer into the opening.

It isn't hunting the plot that scares deer away or drives them nocturnal at the plot, it is killing deer from the plot. HUGE difference in deer reaction.

I have noticed also BSK that if you let the deer come onto the plot and stay for extended periods of time and then shoot them at the end of the hunt it seems to work much better than them just walking out there and firing before they get comfortable and feed for a while. I advise that even if you fully intend to shoot a deer from a plot do it after they have fed for a while rather than immediately after they step into it. \:\)

So following this thinking; my son shot at a doe in a food plot, hit a limb and missed. Will those deer come back? Are they now scared of the plot because of the boom? It was a clean miss. Hit a 1 inch branch and the bullet sailed

I prefer irregular shaped plots. It provides more security for the deer because you can't see/shoot the entire plot. It also provides more edge which means more browse. The deer will use this area often times before entering the plot.

Not sure of the best shape (our long and skinny strips seem to get more usage) but just make sure you can locate a stand where you are not looking directly into the sun. We screwed up this year on our layout and stand placement. By 4 o'clock, it feels like you have been welding without a helmet or shades...
