my dad is looking for a carbine semi auto 750 remington. i found a 742 looks to be in great condition, i know some have had issues with the 742 , i myself have owned a 7400 and 750 carbine both jammed . but i will say i never held a gun i liked more than those two and i have one thats never jammed even when i tried to jam it. never owned a 742 so i would like some input on them ? thanks

Look at where the bolt slides. If it looks kinda waivy, it's been very heavily used.

Check the chamber for rust and bolt rails for burrs

Just make sure it cycles BEFORE you buy it. Dont ask me how I know that.

I'll second that. Some 742 rifles are a little beat up. They wasn't built to be shot a whole lot. I've heard of guys that converted them to a straight slide bolt action and got more service out of beat up rifles.
