Do what I've done and get to know your local wildlife officer and give him a call or text when you head out on a tracking job. I've done it four times this season and has worked like a charm.

Maybe I am the only one calling in or the only one that cares enough about doing the right thing to make a suggestion to improve the process? How many don't try to call in or only make one attempt and give up on trying and just go track? Probably can't answer that because they didn't "complain about" or "have a problem with" not getting caught.

I'm sure if I do call between 8-4:30 Monday-Friday it won't be a problem at all. And your right about it being "doable" after 4:30 or on the weekends but it definitely isn't easy or consistent. I hate to state the obvious but I am not usually needed to track deer during normal business hours. The point is the process is not perfect. Maybe the TWRA and its agents should be a little more open to suggestions for improving processes and less annoyed by the idea that someone outside the TWRA might have good idea.

I know you saw the picture of my dog, you pointed out every possible illegal infraction in the picture none of which were valid, do you really think all 18 lbls of her is going to "hunt" a deer? She is on a leash, I don't carry a weapon and I am looking for something that is dead...how am I hunting? I know what the TCA states about hunting(hunt, chase, take, trap or kill) all of which are done to living animals. A better description of what I am attempting to do would be investigate, search and retrieve...dead animals.

There are probably only a hand full of people within the state that have a dog for the specific purpose of finding lost game. All of which are probably trying to do the right thing and are the least likely ones to use a dog illegally. I assure you come hell or high water without regard to the hour of the night someone with the TWRA is going to get a phone call to log in my track. Then you will know the person at that critical piece of information is the one doing the right thing!

You have a great night and thank you for hindering our ethical responsibility to make every attempt to recover the game we hunt.
