i was wondering the same thing jeff,,,,, if i would have took it to a processor would they have let me know about it ? probably not
Depends on the processor. I killed a buck last year with a head injury that was secreting a mucus like substance. I took it to a trusted processor who is a retired butcher as I was not sure myself. He told me that if its glands were swollen, he would refuse to cut it up. Thankfully, it turned out fine.

I killed a buck last year that had been beat up. His left rack was busted and dangly and he had lots of green infection pus coming out all over his head and eyes and stuff. It stunk like rotten guda!! Told the processor about the infection and td him to donate it. I was to scared to nibble on that one.

Ok Im confused, so if your afraid to eat it, and you DONATE it, arent you afraid to let someone else eat it?!?!? I dont think I could do that. and would a reputable processor give it to someone to consume? seems that would be asking for a law suit. Not being a smartelic, Im just curious.

Seemingly, I agree with that sentiment, however, realistically, Hunters for The Hungry grinds the entire deer up and blends it with a high fat content, so any questionable meat is dispersed and probably fine. For that same reason, (because Hunters for the Hungry grinds and blends the entire deer with the cheapest fat source they can get), I personally will not donate them venison. At that point, you might as well give away McDonald's cheeseburgers. That's just me. I do share venison with people every year, however. If they are inexperienced, I give them instructions on making simple stews and roasts that use all whole and fresh ingredients.

I had a buck last year that looked like he had gone 10 rounds with Mike Tyson.. and lost.. 1 eye was swollen shut and is body had numerous holes in it all with pus coming out.. the whole deer was disgusting.. I would not have eaten it and would have not offered it to anyone else...

I cant imagine a processor doing it either. ick!
