well I learned the hard way that carrying my 30-30 with a climber on my back is a bad idea. The lamination on the wooden stock is scratched up pretty bad from hitting the climber. Any way to touch up the finish?

yeah when I get the chance. it's just surface scratches of the finish, I don't think it gets into the wood at all. Just from rubbing against the climber, nothing sharp enough to dig into the wood. Just looks bad because the finish turns whitish when scratched

Try a little linseed oil and see what happens. You might have to lightly sand with 000 steel wool first.

Agreed. I refinished a stock with only linseed oil. Works great.

depending on what the original finish was (poly, oil, etc) If it is the factory finish, it probably is a sprayed on poly coat, which can be touched up relatively easy. I would remove the butt pad, then the butt stock from the gun. Lightly sand the effected area and scuff the entire butt stock just to take the glaze off, p/u a spray can a clear poly(gloss, matte or flat) which ever your gun currently has and give it several light coats, be patient with this stage.............no runs. reassemble and done.
