This will be my first year deer hunting and I currently have a ladder stand that my friend and I set up on one property. I've got the itch bad though, and we've talked about some other properties that are options, plus I have some family from Louisiana coming up who have a farm we will look to hunt after Thanksgiving.
That being said, I'd like to pick up a climber that I can tote around when traveling. My first requirement is safety, but given the amount of time I may be sitting, I imagine comfort is also important. I've been looking online at the Summit Viper and Goliath line, but that's quite a bit to spend just starting out... (at least the wife thinks so).
Anyone have any suggestions of good stands for a hunter just starting out, or have one laying around that you don't plan to use anymore? I'm in the Franklin/Cool Springs area during the week...
Thanks in advance. I'm learning a lot on this site.

Try Academy in the cool springs area. A buddy told me that they had some good deals on the older Summit Vipers

Hey TNJB,
Similar story here.....I recently bought a Brand new Summit Viper (Classic) Original Steel version from Rogers Sporting Goods online for $150. It came with the rapid climb stirups. It weighs 7 lbs more than the newer aluminum version. Can't beleive I waited this long to get me a climber.....

Hey DS,
That's the one I was looking at as well. Sounds like you like it then? Looks like it's out of stock at Rogers. I did call Academy in Cool Springs, and they have them for 180. I probably picked about the worst time of the year to pick one up used.

I love it. I was a "ladder stand guy" for a long time. Hunted with my climber 5 times already during ML season. Can't beat it.

I bought a Summit Viper brand new about 4 weeks ago. I have climbed the same pine tree about 12 times with it. I'll take $180 for it. Sent you a PM. These things are far too bulky to ship and the UPS fee would be rough. I live in Savannah TN. PM sent to original poster.

I have a summit viper I will sell. It is the viper classic. Very solid. It is used and the plastic coating is off the cables , but the cables are still in excellent condition. It has the rapid stirrups. Seat is in good condition $120.00

TNJB, I have a new summit, I will never use , too old to climb that way anymore , if its not a ladder its not for me. I traded rocks for it with the summit man..I am not sure what model it is, never took the time to look it up , It IS all aluminum , I can send email or text pic if you are interested, (never can figure out how to get them posted on here ) Will take $150 , and I will be passing down I65 one day next week to exit @ hwy 99. Better email me I don't get time to get on here much. Trophyrock@juno.com Joe
