Another question about getting my card.
I'll be moving to TN the end of Nov from VA. I have my permit in VA today. Can I use this in place of the "Original copy of your safety course completion certificate"?
In VA you can use your DD214 in place of a safety course; which I did. Serving 21 years in the military I shot once or twice.

looks like you are good steve for just a renewal..
http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/14300-tennessee-handgun-carry-permit-reciprocity/
Tennessee Handgun Carry Permit Reciprocity Recognition of Out-of-State Handgun Carry Permits
1.Tennessee now recognizes a facially valid handgun permit, firearms permit, weapons permit, or a license issued by another state according to its terms, and will, therefore, authorize the holder of such out-of-state permit or license to carry a handgun only in the state of Tennessee.
2.The person must be in possession of the permit or license at all times such person carries a handgun in Tennessee.
3.Tennessee will enter into written reciprocity agreements with other states that require the execution of such agreements.
4.If a person with a handgun permit from another state decides to become a resident of Tennessee, such person must obtain a Tennessee handgun permit within six (6) months of establishing residency in Tennessee. Such person will be processed as a renewal applicant if the eligibility requirements of the other state are substantially similar to the eligibility requirements of Tennessee. View application requirements by state for persons holding a Handgun Carry Permit from another state and applying for a Tennessee Handgun Carry Permit.
5.A person who is employed in this state for at least thirty (30) hours a week for six (6) consecutive months is required to obtain a Tennessee handgun carry permit within six (6) months from the last day of the sixth month of regular employment in Tennessee. A Tennessee handgun carry permit will be issued in this situation only if the other state has eligibility requirements that are substantially similar to the eligibility requirements of Tennessee. If the eligibility requirements from the other state are substantially similar to the eligibility requirements of Tennessee, Tennessee may issue a Tennessee permit to the person employed in this state under the renewal provisions of Tennessee law.
6.The above number 5 will not apply if the state of residence of the person employed in Tennessee has entered into a reciprocity agreement with Tennessee. States having FORMAL reciprocity agreements with Tennessee: ■Alaska
■Arizona
■Arkansas
■Florida
■Georgia
■Kentucky
■Louisiana
■Michigan
■Mississippi
■New Hampshire
■North Carolina
■Ohio
■Pennsylvania
■South Carolina
■South Dakota
■Texas
■Virginia
■West Virginia
■Wyoming The above states are the only ones that have signed a formal agreement with the State of Tennessee.

Thanks, that is great news tnscooter63. I was expecting to pay the full initial issue fee too. When my wife and I apply for our driver license we'll do this at the same time. Thanks again

It says right on the Permit, Handgun Carry Permit and if the Pooh hits the fan, will it really stop you from carrying if you don't have that Permit?

I don't think there is a limit on handguns that you carry. My dad carries 2 in shoulder holsters, 1 in belt holster and 1 on the ankle Seriously? LOL
You don't live in Memphis

Technically I believe you can carry an AOW type shotgun or AR pistol on your person as a handgun and have it loaded with a round in the tube.

what doea a CP cover as fas as what I choose to carry in my truck? Glock 30 is good but an ak 47 is better! If I have a CP can I have a loaded shotgun or deer riffle in the cab with me?
I believe the legislature passed a law within the past few years that hunters in possession of a carry permit could keep a loaded hunting rifle in the vehicle. I don't recall if there was a limitation or not as to whether you had to be en route to or from the field though.
