We have a couple of pics of this guy from last year. He was still a 4pt then. Are we off in our aging or is this guy just destined to be one nice 4pt mature buck?

I killed a buck a few years ago that was 4.5+ that was only a five pointer. Had 21 inch beams and the bases were as big as I've seen around here, but had only brow tines and 1 little point.

Neck looks 2 1/2, but chest depth looks 3 1/2.

This picture was taken in 2010 in the same spot...this is the deer (back deer)we think the one up top is. Bad angle. What do y'all think? Pictures taken at same spot two years apart. Are they even the same deer?

I am now triple guessing myself, I have said to no on pulling the trigger because I lean more towards 2.5 and my brother ( bluewaterbuck) thinks he is 3.5...others have suggested 4.5. I have passed on him once, if he is a 4.5 year old hammer is coming down.

I thought same but does his neck look skinnier because it's fully outstretched in that particular pic?

that is a very nice fork horn right there, I would shoot it just based on character of the rack

Maybe one of the late born tweeners. We get them on our place once in a while. Makes them hard to judge. Shows some signs of 3.5 some of 4.5. Awful big chest .

The more I look at him, the more I'm leaning towards 3 1/2.

Impossible to say if the summer-time buck is the same buck from a previous year.

Lets say he is 3.5 plus. Then back to my question of is this deer ever going to be more than a 4pt? Yes, I realize its impossible to know if he doesn't get another year to grow but is it possible that this IS his potential? In other words could he go from what he is now to something much larger from an antler standpoint? Even though its a good possibility he's had a 4pt rack his whole life.

If he is 3 1/2 (and I seriously doubt he is older than 3 1/2), it's possible he could add more antler points. But it is also possible that a big fork is all he is going to be.

Here's a 3 1/2 that was just a big 6:

Yet he turned into a very "normal" 120-class 8 at 4 1/2:

Thanks for everyone's input! Hopefully get to see him up close this weekend or at least some better pics when we pull our camera's. Also just read your article in the October issue of Field and Stream BSK. For those that haven't seen its a great read on his 10yr study of rubs in relation to terrain and vegetation features. Very insightful!

I typically do not purchase/read F&S, but may have to hunt this copy down. Thanks for the suggestion.

After looking at different pics we now think this deer isn't a 4pt. We think its the 7pt I took opening morning. The pic at the top of this thread is the only one we have of this deer from his right side. We think his left G3 is blocked by his right G2. Same length of main beams...same color. Thoughts?

We know the dead deer is a 7 pt. we were wondering if the original picture on page 1 was this deer.
