Public Chapter 431 – Loaded Rifles and Shotguns in Vehicles – This act allows a person with a handgun carry permit to possess a loaded rifle or loaded shotgun in a privately owned vehicle. The act provides that the weapon cannot have ammunition in the chamber except in the case that an individual permit holder feels physically threatened.

Not so, if you have a carry permit, you are allowed to have any weapon loaded in your vehicle.

You can have a long gun loaded but not in the chamber.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_laws_in_Tennessee

"Vehicle Carry

Under Tennessee law, a handgun, shotgun, or rifle carried by a non-licensed person in a vehicle in Tennessee must be unloaded and in plain view or secured in commercial gun cases.[3] Glove compartment or console box carry is not permitted, and ammunition must be carried separately from the handgun, rifle, or shotgun.[3] Rifles and shotguns carried in a vehicle must remain unloaded and ammunition must be kept separate ("not in the immediate vicinity") of any firearm unless the vehicle operator has a recognized carry permit.[3]

Tennessee allows permittees to possess rifles and shotguns with magazine loaded, but chamber unloaded in vehicles. Permittees may keep loaded firearms secured in their vehicles except on property with posted "no carry" signs."

That makes sense what difference does it make if it is a long gun or hand gun you ahve a permit to carry a gun.

Nest question,
can I have a long gun and my hand gun both at the same time.

or two hand guns one in my pocket and one that stays in the truck?
