Based upon age and not antlers, I originally wrote this deer off but have revisited my thoughts on him. The time and date are accurate. What would you age this deer at?

I wish he was 4.5 but I am thinking 3.5 which is why I have been writing him off. What characteristics make him a 4 yr old?

Thanks for the input fellas. He's definitely getting a pass from me in hopes that he could make it another year or two but he is ranging right through a "brown and down" property so I don't have high hopes.

I think you'd be passing on a mature buck. I don't think I'd hold out too much hope that his antlers would improve much given another pass.

well the overwhelming majority rules mature so now I just got to figure out how to kill him. I think I have seen him twice from a distance and both times I have not been anywhere close to get into position for a kill shot. Thanks again for the replies.

Based on the pic and where it was taken(if Williamson Cty) I would say 3.5. He doesn't have the mass that most 4.5's in that area have. If you don't mind me asking, what part of Williamson?

Mass does.not necessarily dictate age.

I agree, but based on the norm in that specific county, I would say that deer can still get bigger.

3.5 possibly 4.5 that may very well improve in another year or so. Only way to tell is to give him the chance to live another year. Doesnt sound like your excited about shooting him now, so absolutely nothing to lose in letting him go for atleast 1 more year!

Within 10 miles NW of the 96/Old Hillsboro intersection.
