I have been loading/shooting like I have never done in my life. I been shooting my target rifles and have been having a blast. I have a 2nd 6.5/284 barrel I never shot much, and began playing with some JLK 140`s. I couldn`t get them doing anything and got disgusted, and when the new 6-47 barrel came in I put it on and had a really good run with 115 Tubb`s and the 115 Bergers. Well, I am contemplating going back to Aurora MO. for a 1000 yd match, my first, and decided I`d rather have the 6.5/284 as my light gun so more load devlopement was in order. I shot a few more JLK`s to my dissapointment and after hearing of the guy we met at Aurora set a new record for score with his Lt gun. I was ready to change bullets and play some more. He shot a 2.408" 5 shot group, which is unreal, but not a record breaker, but had 3 in the x ring and 2 in the 10 for a score of 53. This was done with Hornady A-Max 140`s out of a wildcat based off the 7x57 case, he calls it a 6.5-244AI or 244 necked to 6.5 and a 40 degree shoulder. Well let me finish by saying I tried the 140 A-Max in my 6.5/284 and those bullets shoot like a lazer beam. I went to the range today and was testing powders and shot a 3 shot .153 with them. I was so pleased, I tried them in my 6BR I shot a 10 shot group today with brand new cases, and the first 3 were awful, but I just kept shooting the same spot, well the last 7 went into a .224" group. I am through spending money on Bergers, and JLK`s when Hornady is shooting lights out for me in these thoroughbred rifles. Just wanted to pass this along to any not already using these. I measured my older box of 140 A-Max`s I`ve had on the shelf for years. Every one was within .0005" of each other, no culls in the whole friggin box. The 105 6mm were not as tight but Lord have mercy Hornady is busting azz to be the best they can be, Tim.

I saw one of those groups the other day. It sure was purty! Always liked Hornady's, especially the Interlock on Whitetails.

Whats the JLK? I am pretty deep into the nicnames for bullets but I never heard of that one. Better not be nosler related cause nosler is still the shizz to me. And plus, nosler just sounds cool when you say it

only bad rap on the a-max is they might come apart in flight at extreme speeds..

most consistant load I ever had was the 168 Hornady BTHPMoly 308 with A-2520,,it was boring < .3 for 3-5-10 shots it didn`t matter.

JLK, is the initials of the maker, Jimmy Knox. He`s an Arkansan that made a great reputation from his bullets. He developed computerized equipment and the use of strain guages in his process. If you take 2 Stoney Point anvils and 2 insets and attach them to the jaws of a dial caliper you can use this to measure bearing surface and sort bullets into lots, this is a boring step with a great bullet maker, although you will occasinally catch one that might have been a flier.

big, didn`t know that about the A-Max blowing up, but was assured the jackets were soft. I`m running them out of a 6BR and 6.5/284 at under 3 grand. Try to find a "boring" load with the heavy for bore bullets and see how boring that is.......

If I can manage a bullet order I want to add some of their 208 grain 30 caliber A-Max`s and try them in the 300 Saum Sendero.

some of the folks at LRH.com were pushing them at 33-3400 in 240 Gibbs and they said the Sierra was the only heavy six that would take it,,

last I heard they were working on the width and depth of the grooves to make the a-max work, cause they thought it was the best bullet but wouldnt run the speeds they wanted.

I shot a couple hundred 105`ss in the VLS 6mm I had with 7828 at about 3075 and it wouldn`t shoot but about .7 at 100 but out at 4-500 they would come in at .5..the 9 twist was borderline I geuss.

I was thinking a 9" is perfect in that case.
