I've saw, trapped and killed a lot of coyotes but, the other morning I saw one that I'm almost positive had rabies. I was on my way hunting the other morning and something caught my attention in the head lights. I slowed down to a stop and it was a coyote with it's front feet on the pavement and swaying it's head back and forth. At first I thought that it had been hit by a vehical but, then it started "hopping" on it's front legs and showing it's teeth. I had my dogs in the truck and when they started barking that aggitated it even more and it then "bluff" charged at my truck. I had to drive off because a car came up on me so I went a little ways up the road turned around and went back. It was now standing in the ditch doing the same thing. My gun was cased in the back seat and the shells were in my tool box in the back. I wasn't about to get out to get the shells at that point so I drove a little farther down the road grabbed the gun and shells, loaded the gun rolled the window down and drove back. This took some time and when I got back to where it was it had left. I searched the ditch with a flash light trying to see if maybe it wasn't rabid but, defending something it was eating. I didn't find anything that lead me to believe it was doing that. Had I shot it from the road and the saftey of my vehical and then contacted a warden to come check it out could I have been cited? What should I do if I see it again and it's acting the same way? I planned on getting a hold of the local warden but, haven't been able to yet. This thing isn't that far from my home and I'd rather be safe than sorry.

I don't think that they will tell you on the internet that it is okay. I highly doubt that you would get in trouble in a non publicized situation though.

Deff some things are better left unsaid but if you do happen to shoot a rabid animal you may want to contact the authorities I know the Dept of Health does the test for rabies on animals but not sure how much they test and how the info would help.

Why do I carry a gun? Because cops weigh too much to carry and are difficult to conceal.
