this morning i sprayed buck bomb a few times and had a deer blow under the hill a time or two to my right upwind, then about 15 min later i had a deer agressivily blowing and stomping its feet really really agressively, it probaly was 50 to 75 yds away and i couldnt see it and it worked its way downwind while still blowing stomping etc. id grunt or bleat and it stomp more and keep blowing, finaly it quit and like a ghost never showed itself i found 3 nice rubs in the same area. now i have grunted in the past in ml season and had a little spike come right in stomping looking for a fight but this deer was smarter than that, and was HAMMERING the ground so why do they stomp like that?

Usually have you spotted and trying to get you to move. I've seen alot more does do it than bucks.
It's better to be smarter than you look...than to look smarter than you are.

When they stomp (correct me if im wrong) but they have a scent gland in their hooves and they leave they scent as like a warning to other deer but I think deer mainly blow over and over and over and over again to just piss us off lol

i had that done to me yesterday by a few does. i could see them but couldn't get a clear shot on them because of a couple of small limbs.

Because Buck Bomb (and it's commercial cousins) SUCKS. End of story.
It doesn't have to be fun to be fun.

Wild & crazy, can't be stopped. Only the strong will survive.

Haha! Sometimes it works though...
In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing. The worst thing you can do is nothing.

In general, when I see them do it it's because they think "something's not right, but I'm not sure what it is".

If they are near you, then (as others have said), it usually means that they can see your stand/outline/face and think that you might be dangerous, but they aren't sure. Their tactic sometimes works - people will think "gotta make my move now or never!" and start raising their gun/bow. At this point, you confirm to the deer that you are alive and a potential threat, and they leave town.

I'd say about 10% of the time I've had deer that started off stomping/snorting calm down and relax. But the vast majority of the time, they will either slowly leave, or just hop up and run.

It's possible that it was human scent that alerted them, but it's just as likely (probably more likely) that the buck bomb got them alerted. Basic question to ask - "what is different compared to before".

The simplest answer is that there was a giant flume of odor floating around. They work sometimes, they don't others. It's a gamble, and it sounds like you lost. Better luck next time - it happens to all of us.
I'm hungry and tired. Don't poke my belly.

i didnt think about him potent, seeing me and trying to get me to move, had a stair down at 10yds last year with two small bucks, and we had a 5 to 10 min stomping/look away look right back contest trying to ,ake me move. one was a big spike, the other i thought was a doe but was a button. i ended up killing both of them that morning i believe due to buck bomb, they knew i wasnt quite correct, but were more interested in my scents i had hanging out. i think i was dealing with an animal with more human experience sunday though, it wasnt falling for it.
