Sighted in my new optima and it sprinkled rain at the end.. i just wiped off and put up.. took it out now and there are tiny rust specs all over the barrel. I've rubbed a good part off with gun oil but I'm really picky and can still see some. my first ss barrel so I'm learning but any advice how to get it back to new?

A dremel and soft polishing wheel. Not all stainless barrels are created equal. A soft wire brush will work as well.

I have an Optima I purchased on Oct 15.I've shot it about a dozen times working on powder charges etc. Always in bright daylight and then cleaned inside of barrel after shooting. I noticed earlier this week when I took it out to get it loaded up for opening day that a good portion of the barrel is covered in little flecks of rust. Like the op I was able to get it mostly cleaned with gun oil, but this shouldn't be happening. I almost think that maybe they mixed some non blued raw steel barrels in with the stainless barrels by mistake. It rusted WAY too easy. I'll be contacting them after ml season hopefully for a replacement barrel.
This issue aside, I really like the gun.

Most guns now are made with cheaper grades of SS that will rust to keep prices down.

Take some fine steel wool and apply a little gun oil to the spots and rub very light...That will remove the rust spots.

According to CVA's website the barrels are "made with 416 grade stainless. THAT'S REAL STAINLESS STEEL" (emphasis by CVA). According to them this is to help fight corrosion inside and out. However I have guns with blued barrels that have been in the same closet for years and haven't rusted. Like I said before I will be contacting them about it after the season.

I bought a blued barrel CVA Accura for cheap during the off season.

I keep it oiled inside and out....no rust.

Yep... SS comes in grades as does most any other material..never made sense to me.. Seems like they would call the sub-par stuff "sorta or somewhat stainless" instead of stainless steel.. Check with a magnet to see if its magnetic at all. If it is, it's in the 400 series which has many of the characteristics of standard mild steel including it will rust and stain pretty easy.. If its not magnetic at all its at least in the 300 series and will withstand a lot more than regular mild steel.

As far as cleaning/polishing - scoring will show up on stainless so I'd try to use a stainless polish or just a polishing wheel applied lightly on a dremel as stated above by another member
