I love my Savage, but the stock is just junk. let me rephrase that, the stock I got is junk. I have a stainless version with the plastic stock and I want to replace it with a thumbhole stock. Have any of you guys done this and if you have what did you order and did you run into many complications? Thanks for your help.

You'll need to measure the distance between your action screws to make sure you get the correct stock but Boyd's stocks offers a thumbhole laminate for them for around $100. Its technically for a Savage 10 but works on the Muzzle loaders as well. You'll also need longer action screws. Should be able to get them from somewhere like Brownells.

I have changed every single one out that came with the Savage synthetic stock. They are junk. Here a few of my Savage smokeless guns. 2 have custom Rayhill stocks from Stockade Stocks and the 3rd is still sporting the junk soon to be replaced synthetic stock. The Rayhill stock is not cheap but IMO the best stock available. Rayhill uses a novel approach for ramrod storage. The ram rod DOES NOT contact the barrel. The aluminum ram rod channel is molded in the stock with a set screw to adjust tension or pressure on the ram rod.It is unique and he is the only one to do so. All of his stocks are hand made one at a time. The top one is .50 cal in the Woodchuck stock with the wide forearm. The second is .45 in the Mule deer model in which I like best. Both have the third pillar and are bedded. They are insanely accurate. http://www.stockadegunstocks.com/3.html

Ill let you know if I do. Only thing that really turns me against it is the factory Savage stocks are pillar bedded. Any other laminate wouldn't be bedded at all.

The factory laminate will serve you well with the 3rd pillar and bedded.
