I cannot recommend them with good intentions. They are a compromise on either sighting method, especially using a 50mm objective where you would have to mount the scope extra high to see under it. On my .270, I took the iron sights off and practiced target acquisition on 3x power. I use a 3-9x50 on that one as well.

A 50mm objective and see through mounts? Not a good idea at all.

that makes sense, would have to have a 5 inch lift kit to do that, not good.

I like the fixed Talleys the best but they aren't cheap. The one piece talley light weights are about half the price and people swear by them. Warne would be my 2nd choice along with a weaver style base. If you want to be able to use the sights, detachable rings may be a consideration. You might be able to get away with medium height rings. I know you can with the fixed talley's. I try to get as low of rings as possible without touching the barrel or interfering with the action. I would stay away from the luepold dove tail base and rings.

It's not cheap but it will last as long as the rifle does http://www.amazon.com/DNZ-18700-Remington-700-Mount/dp/B008CXQRDQ

I put one on a Short Action 700 with a 50mm AO scope and there's just enough room under it to slide a couple of business cards. Should be great on a 50mm without AO.
