I was told that u could place Irish soap around your food plots to keep the deer out , can any one confirm that ? And If so how long would it work ?

Brad @ Eagle Seed and I had a discussion about this one time, and yes it will deter them, but not a long term solution. Dryer sheets will also help deter.
From what I've studied, the only true fire method to keeping them out for extented periods is an electric fence set up like with multiple strands on the outside and a single strand, located about 4 feet inside that.
You can find some examples of the e fence over or the QDMA forums.

Many things will deter deer briefly. But hungry deer will get used to anything. When I was a kid (in CA), we had Coastal Blacktails that would come down out of the dry hills to eat our garden in summer. We tried everything to keep them out--lions blood, human hair, pie pans tied on strings, radios playing all night, etc. Everything worked, briefly. Then the deer would get used to it. Eventually, they even got used to me going out at night, holding a flashlight on them while I shot them with a BB gun! They would flinch every time I shot them, yet kept right on eating.
