So I've always wondered how hard is it to knock a scope off it's zero. Anyone got stories of falls or dropping their gun to only find it still be on.

Dropped a Ruger carbine with an old tasco all the way out of the truck one time. Wasn't paying attention. I think I was 12.
Scope was fine, but I learned a lesson.
I think if you have a good scope with sturdy mounts (properly tightened screws), it takes more punishment than anyone would inflict on a nice weapon.

I have had one or two of my rifles tip over after leaning them against a tree over the yrs. and hit the ground, one even hit a flat rock. Neither were effected.

PS: But I had a POS Burris pistol scope that I blew the crosshairs out of twice in less than a yr. from recoil of a .357 mag

Have a Remington 700 LTR .308 (Light Tactical Rifle) with 3x9 Burris Fullfield II and Talley bases and mounts and have traveled all over North America whacking animals. Rifle has been dropped and god knows what else by airline baggage handlers and never had a problem holding zero. Also have a Marlin .35 Remington with Leupold 2x7 Vari XIII and Weaver base with Talley rings that took an unfortunate tumble out of a treestand but still holds zero like the day I first sighted it in.

I've had Redhead scopes and Burris take hits hard enough to scratch the turret caps and dent the edge of the bell and still hold zero. I've had a Tasco scope that would go off adjustment after looking at it hard. A Simmons scope I used to use also seemed to get out of adjustment with no known bumps. It probably depends on the strength and angle of the hits, but I'd check zero fairly frequently whether you think you banged it or not.

I was trying to put my coveralls on in a tree stand a few years ago and knocked my rifle (model 11 Savage .308 with a Bushnell Elite 3200 3x9x40, millet mounts) of the hook it was hanging on. The rifle fell 20 ft. to the ground, bounced on a root and cartwheeled down the ridge and stopped on a big rock outcropping. The Elite has two dents in it the size of a dime. One is right next to the elevation turret. The rifle still shoots 1/2 moa and zero remains dead on.

The hard part is deciding...do you hunt, or do you go shoot it after you drop it in the woods.

Depends on the scope...I had a Nikon Monarch on .300 RUM that would not hold zero. Sent it back and got another one...same thing. It now sits on a .22

I agree. I think the biggest problem is if you do or do not check and make sure. I always check my scope before season just to make sure. I would think a lot of people would just loose confidence in the set up if it took a hard bang if they had done it 100x before and never lost 0. Guess my point is confidence in your set up..... Maybe should be a whole different post, ha....

A lot depends on the scope and rings.
I have had cheap scopes in cheap rings and the slightest knocks around will screw the zero up.
My USO with USO rings, I could drop that from a 10 story building and it would still hold zero
