I have a leaf river 6mp camera. It worked fine the first few times out and then it quit saving the images on the card, so I sent it back to leaf river to be fixed. What do you think I could get for this once it is fixed. Any offers? The reason I am selling is because I have 3 cuddebacks, 2 homebrews, and 1 leaf river that is the odd ball. I just don't like having to remember 3 different systems because everytime I get out there to change it out I forget how to do one of them. Anyone interested?

Here are a couple of pics from the camera, as you can see they are very sharp and clear. I hate to get rid of it, I just hate having three different system and I only have 1 of these. It also picks up on animals very quick from a wide range like the bobcat pic!

DC-6ss is the model of this cam. 6.3mp and 2.4 inch viewing screen. What do you think it is worth even if you are not interested???

For those interested, and Abolt didn't ask me to do this and doesn't even know me as far as I know, Leaf Rivers are typically a quality camera for their money. They get good reviews at Chasingame and very few problems reported there. Thought I'd throw that out there since some may not know much about them. They also made some good updates on their 2006 models. Thought I'd add this since I'm a trail cam "ADDICT". Good luck in selling Abolt.

My only Leaf River experience has been with the 2006 6.3mp model, exactly the same one that Abolt has. Generally speaking, it's trigger time is not as fast as a Cuddeback No Flash, yet it often will get pics the Cuddeback misses. The Leaf River 6.3 has a wider detection zone, while the Cuddeback requires the deer to be near the center of its aim. Often, a particular deer will only edge into the field-of-view (never crossing the center), and these Leaf Rivers get pics that Cuddeback misses.
On the other hand, sometimes a deer will move fast across the FOV and the Cuddeback will get the pic, while the Leaf River isn't quick enough (taking the pic only after the deer is gone).
From what I understand, the Leaf River 6.3mp has a quicker trigger time than a Moultrie or many of the cheaper makes, and mine has worked great on salt licks, food plots, and scrapes. However, like most of the cheaper digital cams, it's not as good on trails (where the deer typically moves across the FOV / Detection Zone quickly). I'm still mainly using the old DC-200 35mm film cams for trail monitoring, as they miss nothing and actually provide higher quality images than any of the digital cams I've reviewed to date
I'm really sorry that Abolt has had a problem with his, but I've been overall pleased with mine. Or put it this way: I could recommend the Leaf River 6.3mp as being a fair value for the money it cost in today's cam market, while I think the 2006 Cuddeback No Flash is way overpriced for the piece of junk and user unfriendliness it provides.

Abolt,
If you get your Leaf River back refurbished and working properly, I'll be glad to buy it from you for a fair price, since I'm familiar with them, and already have lots of CompactFlash Cards (same ones used by Cuddebacks).

Thanks outdoorbob and Wes, I am not even sure if I want to get rid of it. I do really like it, and if I can't get a decent amount for it I will just keep it, but I would really like to have all of the same units. Does anybody have a homebrew that they would work a trade out with me? Worth a shot! Leaf river was very helpful fixing it, they didn't even charge me!

Trigger times on the Cuddeback NoFlash are right at 3.0 seconds. The Leaf River cams are running 3.0 seconds day and 3.5 seconds night. All of these are slow trigger speeds. For trail set-ups, anything slower than 2.0 seconds is unacceptable in my opinion (will result in missed deer or "rear end" pictures).

Do you know the trigger time on the old DC-200 film cams?
Mine appear to be 0.50 second or less, and even a running deer shows up as a sharp clear pic, whereas a running deer is nothing more than a blur on the Cuddeback No Flash.
Although the trigger time on the Leaf River is a little slower (in most circumstances) than the Cuddeback No Flash, on moving deer I've found the Leaf River to produce better quality pics than the Cuddeback (typically just a worthless blur). But none compare the the pic quality of the DC-200 film cam IMO.

Yes, the NoFlash produces extremely blurry images due to excessively long exposure times, a problem common to several commercial digitals. The cheap CMOS imagers use in most commercial trail-cameras are less sesitive to light than the high-end CCD imagers used in real digital cameras, hence longer exposure times are required to get the same color saturation on a CMOS imager.

Sure am glad to see the trigger speed on the old cudde 35mm DC200. I have 5 of them that I got when they closed out the 35mm models and I just haven't had time to get them in the woods. Guess I better do that this weekend!

The DC-200 was the best trail-camera ever made, hands down. Their only down-side was the limitation on number of pictures that could be taken (24 or 36 exposure roll of film), and the cost of film and developing.
I still have five working DC-200s and a hand-controller. I love those cams!

BSK, if you love em, that's good enough for me! I know how you've had some not so good luck with some cameras. Your thoughts on the DC-200's was one of the main reasons I bought the last 5. I had been pleased with my previous 2 of them. Cost of film and developing won't hurt so bad if the cameras work and get pictures of what's passing by. I'd rather have to pay for processing than have a camera that doesn't work half the time. You are the guru of cameras!!

I love the old DC-200s and I love the new homebrews which are built on a nearly identical design to the DC-200, only using a digital camera instead of a film camera. I have many of both and use them all.
